I understand the struggles of young mothers. I was one myself, awhile back. But your approach/methodogy seems to be teaching her how to get her own way…not understand how to work within rules, that are set for their own good. Why make a movie of this??

Confused, but she is a sweet girl and wish you the best.

Ann, thank you for your comment. I totally relate to your concern. I remember feeling really worried about it myself and asking my counselor how this was not permissive parenting, how my daughter was not gonna get spoiled, etc. 4 years later, I can tell you that there’s NOTHING about this approach that’s permissive. Yes, you’re correct it’s not about learning to work within rules, but that’s not what I want my daughter to learn. I want her to know her own feelings and needs, and to care about what other feel and need; I’d like her to be able to make decision for herself, not because it’s “within the rules” but because it’s the right thing to do for her and for others. You know? My daughter doesn’t get her way, what she gets is listened to, and often she is heard. And just as often, she has to learn to hear me. Is this less confusing? or more : )
